Red Velvet Waffles

*Note… all pictures that you see within the post are always mine from when I’ve finished preparing a meal. The display picture is sometimes a picture that I’ve found that looks more appealing*

I love any and everything that is red velvet. I mean it. One day I saw someone tweet that they were having Red Velvet Pancakes and that struck a match within me. I’m more of a waffle person than I am a pancake person so I began scouring the interwebs for a waffle recipe. The pancake recipes I didn’t too much like either. I think it can be done much easier, perhaps I’ll post a recipe for that too when I finish experimenting. I hit up my fave ATL Friend-In-Food Stu and told him that I’m trying to make Red Velvet Waffles. I need not say much more, because I’m pretty sure he then headed to my house with a Waffle Iron. So we got to mixing and making! Below is the recipe and a few pics!

If you are cooking this recipe then I assume you have a waffle iron. If you’ve got it like that and decide that now is the time to get one, I suggest getting a waffle iron with big waffle pockets. Those are my fave, and I feel like they are the best! LOL

Red Velvet Waffles:
Prep Time: 20 Mins Cook Time: 5 mins each.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • ½ Stick of butter (melt then allow to cool)
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 2  eggs
  • 1 cap-full vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons red food color (give or take. I just pour until I’m happy with the redness)
  • Cream Cheese Butter (Recipe at the end)
  • Syrup (Aunt Jemimah’s duh!)

Preparation:

Preheat waffle iron and spray with cooking spray.

Combine the flour, cocoa, sugar, salt, and baking soda in a large mixing bowl.

In another bowl combine the butter, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food color. Once this is all mixed, slowly add the flour mixture to the wet mixture a few scoops at a time. Use a whisk or a mixer to combine, but do so slowly.

After it is all mixed together, pour about 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup of the batter onto the waffle iron evenly. You don’t want to pour until it covers the entire iron because it will spill out, but pour until it covers most.

Cook waffles for about 4-5 mins or until they are to your level of crispiness. You can lift the iron a bit and if the waffle detaches easily you will know it’s at least done. You can let it sit longer to get crispier.

Top with butter and syrup and you’re good to go!

I have a great butter recipe though for these and so if you like you can try this out too! I didn’t measure this so it’s up to you to mix to taste.

Cream Cheese Butter:

Combine Butter, Cream Cheese, and Cinnamon in a bowl. You can add chopped nuts as well if you want extra crunch. I just left it as is, and topped my waffles with the butter and some extra cinnamon! Voila!

Sugar Kisses!

Delicious is the only word that describes these waffles. The cream cheese butter is a must. I used about a stick of each and a tablespoon of cinnamon.

Thought I was going to be treating myself out this Sunday to a local restaurant that serves red velvet waffles but plans aren’t going to allow me to do that. So, decided to try to make them myself and scoured the internet for recipes. Of the recipes I’ve come across, your seems the simplest and also looks like the best one.

Made these for dinner tonight. Yummy! I’m keeping the recipe and just bookmarked your site. Thank you.

  17. I just booked marked this site.. curious about the butter. did you use equal amounts of butter and cream cheese?

The fun thing about cooking is that it’s more art than science. A little more butter than cream cheese. What’s really cool is now that have the Cream Cheese CREAM. It’s already smooth and creamy to be mixed and added into things. Try that stuff!

      Thanks for coming by!

  18. MissEducation says:

Can you makes these as pancakes if you don’t have a waffle maker??

  19. Yes, this does give you tons of time to take off and finish all that you need to be done.
    package noodles. cup cottage cheese.

  20. I actually blog also and I am publishing a little something very close to this post, “Red Velvet
Waffles JG* Runs The Kitchen”. Do you care in cases where I personallymake use of a lot of of your tips?

Honey is a common ingredient of natural skin care products.
This natural skin care ingredient works in 2 ways; by relaxing
your skin to smooth out wrinkles and by re-densifying your
skin to permanently reduce the appearance of wrinkles. You can also run the product
that you are interested in with your family doctor or dermatologist.

Primarily it sold fried chicken but now due to a lot of competition in this type of
food market it has come up with different types of burgers, sandwiches and salads to capture
the market. Pizza delivery used to be strictly a phone transaction, but now
the internet has brought ordering pizza to a new level. It
is necessary for us to figure out effective ways to solve this tough
    trouble.
